Finley United Methodist Church began as Methodist Episcopal and is now United Methodist due to historic mergers.
At present, members and constituents come to worship from surrounding rural areas and communities, as well as from the city of Steubenville; membership is around 412. The highest membership was probably in 1958 with the mark standing at 604.
Finley adheres to a Wesleyan Theology by the preaching and practicing of Justification by Faith and Sanctification by the Spirit.
We currently have two Sunday morning services and a Sunday evening service under the leadership of a dedicated pastor. Sunday School is at 9:30am and there are classes for all ages. Enrollment is around 150. Youth activities have always been an important part of FInley Church.
Spiritual and Bible studies are held on Wednesdays, These services are under the leadership of our pastor who follows the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Testimonies edify the Church and are strongly encouraged. Bible studies precede a time of prayer, which is an essential part of the service and a powerful force in the successful ministry of the Church. Various prayer groups meet throughout the week. Also, home-based small group Bible studies are held.
Revival services are scheduled for at least twice each year. These are times of spiritual refreshing for those seeking Salvation or desiring to make a new commitment to the Lord.
Finley encourages titheing and is a giving, caring Church, ministering to the needs of the community. Our Church is blessed with loving and generous people who believe in the ministry programs and give God's love that the plan of Salvation may not only be proclaimed locally, but thoughout the world.
